Plan-S has achieved another significant milestone within the scope of its Connecta IoT Network integration efforts with Azercosmos. Data obtained from sensors developed by the Azerbaijan-based technology company Elsmart was successfully transmitted via Plan-S’s satellite constellation.

Plan-S, a prominent global company in satellite and space technology solutions, has added another achievement to its work contributing to Azerbaijan’s digital transformation. Within the scope of the Connecta IoT Network integration studies carried out with Azercosmos, data from sensors developed by the Azerbaijan-based technology firm Elsmart was successfully transmitted via a Plan-S constellation satellite. The end-to-end tests confirmed the system’s operability in the field and once again proved the reliability of the service infrastructure.

Regional Transformation with Support from Space

Azercosmos, Azerbaijan’s national space agency and satellite operator, provides services not only to Azerbaijan but also to many countries in the region. With its expertise in satellite communication solutions, Azercosmos plays a critical role in Azerbaijan’s digital transformation, while Elsmart stands out as the first locally developed smart home and automation systems brand in Azerbaijan. With a broad product portfolio ranging from smart city solutions to building automation, IoT-based energy management, and security systems, Elsmart is among the building blocks of digitalization with its data-collecting infrastructure from the field. The integration carried out by Plan-S with these two important local partners shows that digital transformation can be implemented with space-based support not only in urban centers but even in hard-to-reach areas.

Activities Accelerate in Azerbaijan

This integration clearly demonstrated the usability of the Connecta IoT Network satellite communication infrastructure in the Azerbaijani market. This system, notable for its low energy consumption and cost-effectiveness, especially in rural areas with insufficient terrestrial infrastructure, provides reliable connectivity in critical areas such as agriculture, energy, and environmental monitoring.

From the Field to Space, from Space to Decision

This successfully completed first field application paves the way for integrating Connecta IoT Network into different use scenarios across Azerbaijan. Through planned demos and pilot applications, the aim is to spread digitalization throughout the country. This data transmission infrastructure provided from space accelerates decision-making processes while increasing operational efficiency.

The Satellite Constellation Grows, the Service Area Expands

Plan-S recently placed 4 new Connecta IoT Network satellites into their orbits in space through a successful launch operation. With this step, the company, which has reached a 12-satellite constellation structure, aims to increase data collection frequency, reduce connection times, and expand its global service capacity. The new satellites also feature a higher domestic production ratio, reflecting the company’s vision for sustainable production and national technology development. The integration carried out in Azerbaijan stands out as one of the first international field applications of this expanding infrastructure.

Strength Born from Cooperation

The CEO of Plan-S Özdemir Gümüşay used the following statements in his announcement regarding the integration study: “This work we carried out together with Azercosmos and Elsmart is not only a technical success; it is also a very important step in terms of technology transfer and digital inclusivity. With satellite-based solutions, the geographical boundaries of digital transformation are disappearing.”
