A satellite-based meter reading system has been launched in Muğla through the strategic cooperation of Plan-S and Adm Elektrik.

Plan-S, which supports the digital transformation in the energy sector from space, has signed another significant project with Adm Elektrik, one of the country’s leading distribution companies, using its Connecta IoT Network system.

A new contract was signed between Plan-S and Adm Elektrik for a system that will enable electricity meters to be read via direct satellite connection. The project, which includes a total of 2,000 electricity meters in Muğla’s Seydikemer, Bodrum, Milas, Fethiye, and Ula districts, has moved to the implementation phase after the successful completion of field tests.

Data Transmission Without Infrastructure Investment

The Plan-S manufactured Smart Meter Modem Pro devices, which have a 90% domestic production rate and will be used in the project, communicate with Plan-S’s Connecta IoT Network satellites in near-Earth orbit, enabling daily transmission of meter data to the center. Thus, reliable data transmission becomes possible even in rural areas or regions with difficult infrastructure access. These modems, resistant to harsh weather conditions, can operate flawlessly even in very high or very low temperatures.

The project, with an investment value of approximately 11 million Turkish Lira, aims not only for digitalization but also for significant operational and environmental gains. Thanks to the satellite-linked system, the reduction of 1,440,000 kilometers of vehicle use per year will lead to a cut of approximately 115 thousand cubic meters of carbon emissions.

Tested and Now Launching

Throughout the field test process, the modems’ connection continuity, data transmission performance, and environmental durability were measured in detail. Following the successfully completed tests, the pilot application initiated in Milas will spread to Seydikemer, Bodrum, Fethiye, and Ula in the coming months. The project will be expanded to serve wider areas in the future.

“Both Service Quality Increases and the Environment Wins”

Making statements about the Connecta IoT Network project, Plan-S General Manager Özdemir Gümüşay said, “With Connecta IoT Network, we are ensuring sustainability and efficiency not only in electricity distribution but in the entire energy infrastructure. This project, which we tested in the field together with Adm Elektrik and achieved successful results, will serve as an example both for our nation and the world.”
