Plan-S Strengthens Its Position in the Global Market with Turkish Satellite Technologies
Plan-S, a pioneering Turkish company in satellite and space technologies, has completed the necessary regulatory processes in Denmark for satellite-based Internet of Things (IoT) communications, following Türkiye and Australia, and is now ready to provide services. This development marks a significant step in Plan-S’s strategy to expand its satellite IoT services, offered under the Connecta brand, services built upon the company’s development of satellites, ground terminals, and end-to-end communication technology, into Türkiye, Australia, Denmark, and subsequently into different markets.
The authorization granted in Türkiye by the Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK) was given to Connecta Communication Services, a 100% subsidiary of Plan-S. Thus, the first authorization issued by BTK for a Low Earth Orbit (LEO) operator in Türkiye was obtained by Connecta. By completing the national regulatory process in Australia and obtaining authorization in Denmark under regulations incorporating satellite IoT communications into national legislation, Plan-S has paved the way for service provision in three countries across two different continents within just one year.
The satellite IoT services offered under the Connecta brand aim to ensure connectivity continuity in regions where terrestrial infrastructure is unavailable or inadequate. With the Connecta IoT Network satellite constellation, which will reach 16 satellites by early 2026, the goal is to create new capabilities in critical application areas such as smart irrigation and crop monitoring in agriculture, grid monitoring and resource management in the energy sector, fleet and container tracking in logistics, remote site monitoring in mining and construction, sustainable management of water resources, and rapidly deployable communication in disaster situations.
Plan-S plans to continue its satellite production and launch activities in the coming period to expand the service coverage and capacity of the Connecta brand and to support a wide range of satellite IoT usage scenarios, from smart city applications to environmental protection projects, and from defense solutions to global supply chain monitoring.
Plan-S CEO Özdemir Gümüşay stated, “As a Turkish satellite and space technologies company, the BTK authorization we obtained in Türkiye for Connecta and the regulatory processes we completed in Australia and Denmark provide a strong foundation for scaling the satellite IoT services we offer under the Connecta brand across different markets. These steps contribute to Türkiye’s goals of independence in space and communication technologies while also confirming the global reliability of our solutions.”
